It’s the time of year for special thanks for many things, including gratitude for this year’s Pro to Pro contributing authors who have made Pro to Pro the source for optical education and training, and news for optical pros by optical pros. So here’s to you with my deep appreciation:

Danielle Crull, ABOM, shares her expertise from a pediatric optical practice; Johnna Dukes, ABOC and OAA President, lends insights from an independent optical; Preston Fassel, optician and fiction writer, sends true stories about optical adventures; David Lineaweaver, ABOM, and Certified Low Vision Specialist, educates us about unusual ocular conditions; Guy Musladin, ABOM, presents deep dives into ophthalmic optics; Lori Passarelli, ABOM, offers solutions for special needs patients; Laurie Pierce, ABOM, is our own optical advice columnist, Ms. Specs in the City; Judy Quinones, ABO-A/NCLEC, has insightful retail strategies; Kai Rands, ABOC/NCLEC, shows us unique aspects of vision, the eye and the brain; Marisol Rodriguez, ABO-AC/NCLEC, provides strategies for patient care; and Jonathan Winnegrad, ABO-AC/NCLE-AC, gives us a candid look at customer service and retail strategies.

Wow! Look at those credentials and the range of topics that expand our knowledge and help with patient care and business success. They come to you every month in print and weekly in the Pro to Pro e-newsletter. It’s a privilege to work with such a talented group, and your contributions make Pro to Pro one of the most-read sections of 20/20. Thank you all!

Another shout-out is to Editor-in-Chief James Spina, who is retiring at the end of this year. James led the 20/20 team as a trusted voice in the industry for optical products, trends, technology and continuing education. He was at the forefront of the addition of continuing education and Pro to Pro content in every issue of 20/20, along with the seamless integration of Lenses & Technology into the magazine. During his time at 20/20 Magazine, the publication amassed several prestigious honors, including the Hall of Fame Award from the Accessories Council, and multiple Folio awards. Most recently, James received the NOW Optical Achievement Award from The Vision Council.

More than that, James is a mentor who guided me with encouragement, insight, kindness and friendship, all of which allowed me to grow in my role with Pro to Pro. I will miss James, but I realize the step into retirement is well earned, and I wish him happiness on this next part of the journey, and satisfaction in all he has given to others. Thank you, James! Best wishes to all for a joyous holiday season and a bright new year!
