Let’s take a break from “Speculating” on men’s eyewear this week and focus our sights on L&T, the lenses and technology side of 20/20. Most of you know 20/20 as the fashion and style leader in covering frame products, but we have also played a leading role when it comes to covering the lenses and tech space, and its impact on eyewear and eyecare. For nearly four decades, 20/20 and Vision Monday Group Editor Andrew Karp has strengthened and reinforced this role, overseeing L&T editorial coverage in 20/20. Karp curated content for our RxPertise and Artist of the Lens feature stories, and special L&T reports on a variety of significant topics impacting the lenses and tech landscape. He shared thoughtful and expert insights in his Through My Lens editorial columns and further engaged the 20/20 audience with his LTV videos. Many in the industry as well as within our Jobson Optical family know him as our resident musician, making music in his personal time and for charitable industry causes such as Rock4Sight. After 37 years, Karp is saying goodbye to our group with his retirement on June 28.

On a personal note, I would like to extend to Andy my sincere gratitude for all the important contributions he has made to 20/20 and our group, the dedication he brought to his work and for his friendship. Reading and editing our L&T feature stories has given me the opportunity to expand my optical horizons beyond the eyewear and retailing aspect of our business, and learn more about the lenses and technology side of the industry. Congratulations Andy—on behalf of the 20/20 team, we wish you the best as you embark on your next chapter. Read more on his illustrious career and join me in raising your (eye)glasses to Andrew Karp.
